PRESS STATEMENT ON MASSACRE OF STUDENTS IN UGANDA

PRESS STATEMENT ON MASSACRE OF STUDENTS IN UGANDA
For Immediate Release
Female Students Network Trust (FSNT) is deeply sad on the recent massacre of students in Uganda in which a gunman in reportedly killed 25 students while several others were abducted. Reports are that, a dormitory at Lubiriha School in Uganda was burnt down and a food storage looted, 25 students killed while 8 others victims were rescued in a suspected terrorist barbaric shooting.
As FSNT we condemn in strongest terms such evil acts on students no matter what the circumstances may be. Students are a key constituency in the development on any nation hence preserving their rights especially the right to life as enshrined in the Universal Declaration on Human Rights should be the top priority of everyone in the world. We urge governments around the globe to unite against terrorism and in protecting the rights of students and children from hooligans.
As Africa, we recently commemorated the International Day of the African Child which is premised on the sacrifice of students killed in the SOWETO uprising during the Apartheid regime era as they were demanding for the provision of basic social needs of their community including the right to education. This should be our reminder for us to strengthen our systems towards the protection of children.
